Manny: Looking Back (3-time champ)

Michigan’s upset of Duke got us all sentimental.

Manny Harris was a high school junior the first time I saw him at Cobo. That first PSL Final got us sort of hooked on the whole city basketball thing, and we made it a point to watch him extensively the next year.

Let’s just say, it was some season.

Manny went off for 52 at home against Henry Ford our first game out.

His line read like this: 13 (3) 17-23.  We always knew he could get to the line.

He dropped 52 in a game that was called with a minute left in overtime because a fight spilled down from the stands onto the court.

Corperryale single-handedly carried his team at times, scoring 52 again a week later and working his way to Mr. PSL and Mr. Basketball while leading Redford to a three-peat city championship and back to the Breslin Center.

He followed the path of Dion Harris to Michigan despite some wavering during the Amaker-to-Beilein transition.

And now, as Jay Bilas said last Saturday, it would be hard for even the best defenders in the country to keep him under 25.
